MELBOURNE: tHE CASE OF BRUNCH, COFFEE AND THE NEED TO LOVE AGAIN

TRAVEL | Read More

But above all, isn’t that what we need?
To freeze the moment we love so dearly, to keep them closest from the heart?
And what it is, if not greed,
To wish for a pause, in which nothing will ever be apart?

LUCEDALE FOR CHANEL NΒ°5

In 2021, Chanel nΒ°5 will be celebrating her 100th birthday. We can only hope to be so lucky β€”but what made her so special?

Coco Chanel. Born as a Leo, the fifth star sign. Back in time, when perfume was made only with a single ingredient (mostly a flower), Mademoiselle Coco wanted to create a different one to describe the new, modern, sophisticated woman she visioned throughout her creation. Something more than β€œsmelling like a flower”. Fate connected her to Ernest Beaux, live close by in Grasse, who presented 10 samples for her to try in bottle number 1-5 and 20-24. As if destined already, she chose nΒ°5. With a revolutionary use of aldehyde and heart of May Rose, a special flower which only blooms once a year for a period of three weeks in May β€”marking the birth of a modern, complex, multifaceted fragrance as we know today.

I almost named my daughter Rose when I learn that she expected to be born around the end of April. Primrose, to be exact β€”that means the β€œfirst” rose, one of the first flowers that bloom in spring. But she wanted to be born in May, and stayed inside my belly for another week until it was May the 3rd.

We ended up naming her Frances Dia, but she is then, as she has chosen herself, a true May Rose in our family; breathing, alive. And this beauty nΒ°5 will be the first bottle of perfume that I’ll pass down to her when she’s grown.

Do you believe in lucky numbers, or do you have any of your own?

THERE'S AN IMMEASURABLE BEAUTY ON THE VERGE OF KNOWING JUST ENOUGH. AND IN ACCORDANCE, THE GRATIFICATION WE GAIN FROM BEING FREE OF UNSUBSTANTIAL KNOWLEDGE COULD BE ESSENTIALLY LIBERATING. (IN ANOTHER WORDS: NOT BEING THE ONE WHO KNOWS EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME WILL NOT MAKE US LESS WORTHY.)

Hi, I’m Clara.

I’m a writer, content creator, entrepreneur and creative director from Jogjakarta, Indonesia. β€˜Lucedale’ is the name I initially used as my writer alias, and then it grew into a whole universe of personal branding. Lucedale is a safe space for me and my creative exploration, so hopefully, this platform can also serve as a welcoming place for you. If you’re new here, welcome! I’m grateful to have you around. Stay close. x

SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN

IN BLOG

I’m usually pretty good when it comes to writing a letter. It’s an old ritual for me: a piece of paper, a comfortable pen, maybe some coffees or songs by the speaker (if I want to spoil myself). And I’ve missed it a lot lately. I know - why don’t you just send letters then, Clara? Well I did, actually. I’ve written letters for my best friends, some love letters for my husband, introduction letters to some readers… birthday cards, congratulation cards, get-well-soon cards… grieving cards. The last one is often too hard to send out, but it has become more necessary than before; you know, since the pandemic came into our lives. And maybe that is why (among other reasons) I couldn’t just easily feel confident with any new post in this blog since the beginning of 2021. Giving birth to a new blog post has always shared a similar quality (and satisfaction) as sending out a written letter in the mail. So naturally, I often assume about what kind of reaction the receiver of such β€œletter” would be. Would the letter is polite enough and considered thoughtful? What if my writing is just me throwing out complaints and being an ungrateful brat for feeling negative despite having my obvious privileges around, right? What if people want me to write a good, reflective, positive, in-depth learning about a certain phenomenon or a certain, I don’t know, life lesson? Wisdom? Pieces of Advice?
